The Church Lady T Shirt – available now. Show your moral superiority!
When The Church Lady (portrayed hysterically by Dana Carvey) debuted on Saturday Night Live in 1986, nobody had any idea of how popular she'd turn out to be. The character became so popular, she continued to be seen regularly until 1990, when Carvey left the show and went on to do other things. She was then later sen on his eponymous television show, and again on SNL in 2000 and 2011.
The Church Lady (named Enid Strict) sketch was a spoof of “holier-than-though” fundamentalist Christian types, based on women the actor knew in his youth. The Church Lady and her famous phrases – among them, “How convenient” and “Could it be Satan?” – became famous pop culture reference points, making Dana Carvey famous in the process, but none was more well known than the one we've put on this shirt.
So now you can make subtle arch observations about what's going on without even opening your mouth, and all the hippest cats (and SNL fans) will know exactly what you're doing. This design was intentionally made to be understated, as if the Church Lady herself were saying the words beneath her sanctimonious breath. Deliver your own understated, sarcastic commentary by wearing this cool, fun t shirt on your chest!
